Go Guide – August 20

There’s nothing quite like watching a movie outside, so I’m thrilled to see the Classic Movie Series taking place at the Inn at Irwin Gardens, 608 Fifth St. The series features one movie per month in the coming months before it gets cold. Saturday’s selection is “The Long Hot Summer,” starring Paul Newman as ambitious drifter Ben Quick who arrives in a small Mississippi town when a town patriarch, played by Orson Welles, tries to push Quick into a marriage with his daughter, played by Joanne Woodward. Concessions will be available, as well as beer and wine. Tickets are $15. Gates open at 8:30 p.m. Showtimes for other movies will vary according to sundown.

Columbus native Daniel Klingler recently scratched one item off his bucket list; the professional makeup artist’s book, “Idiot’s Guides: Everyday Makeup Secrets,” was published by a division of Penguin. To celebrate, Klingler will return to his hometown for a book-signing party 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Parlor 424, 424 Washington St. Klingler will be signing copies of his books while meeting and greeting fans and friends alike.
