Driver arrested after accident involving multiple semis

JOHNSON COUNTY — Indiana State Police arrested a Florida truck driver after accusing him of causing a crash involving six semis and a van in the northbound lanes of I-65 in Johnson County at about 4:15 p.m. Thursday.

Jose Montalvo, 43, Hialeah, Florida, fled the accident scene shortly after rear-ending another semi in the right lane, which set off the chain reaction crash, state police said.

Montalvo was located a short time later by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department and arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of a crash and driving without insurance, state police said. Montalvo was also cited for following too closely and several Federal Motor Carrier violations.

I-65 at the 92 mile marker was closed for about three hours after the accident, state police said.

One driver of another semi was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, police said.

The Needham Volunteer Fire Department cleaned up a small hazardous material spill from leaking engine and transmission fluids and leaking fuel from the semis.
