Ruthanna (Uffman) Montgomery, age 90, of Columbus, passed peacefully on June 13, 2016, at Silver Oaks Heath Campus. She was a homemaker who had also worked at Como Plastics, JC Penney and Montgomery Ward.

She was a member of Ogilville Christian Church which her great-grandfather helped to build.

Ruthanna and her husband Howard enjoyed many years of helping at the church, traveling and attending every function related to their family activities.

Mrs. Montgomery was very involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She was a 4-H leader, Exchangette member, seamstress, Sunday school teacher, County Extension member for many years and served as County Extension secretary, cabin mom at Hilltop Christian Service Camp, singer, active Democratic Party worker and supporter of the classrooms and schools of her children and grandchildren. She and Howard were among the first to begin the PTA at Wayne Township School.

Ruthanna was well-known for her love and expertise in decorating and cooking. Her favorite time of year was Christmas with all the trimmings. Her chicken & noodles were famous at church and family dinners. In recent years, she enjoyed making jewelry, attending Bible study, giving cooking tips, listening to ball games, taking bus trips and playing bingo at Silver Oaks.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2016, at Barkes, Weaver and Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Marty Wright and Virgil Clotfelter officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016, and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Friday.

Burial will be at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ogilville Christian Church, Silver Oaks-Legacy Lane or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Born in Bartholomew County, February 20, 1926, Ruthanna was the daughter of Floyd and Bernice Wagner Uffman.

She married Howard F. Montgomery on April 6, 1944. He preceded her in death in October 2009.

Survivors include a daughter, Judith (Dale) Wichman of Seymour, and sons, Robert Montgomery of Columbus and Lynn (Janice) Montgomery of Columbus. Her beloved grandchildren are Brian (Cathy) Wichman of Columbus, Amy Cobb of Atlanta, Georgia, Brent (Natasha) Wichman of Seymour, and Rebecca (Greg) Wilson of Lake Stevens, Washington. Her great-grandchildren are Brian/BT, Christian, Noah, and Jonah Wichman, Tess, Hudson and Davis Cobb, Emma and Claire Wichman, and Zach, Izabela, Montgomery and Trevor Wilson.
