Quarterback Andrew Luck has signed a new contract with the Indianapolis Colts that will keep him on the team through the 2021 season, the Colts announced Wednesday afternoon.
Luck, 26, was entering the final year of his first contract with the team and possibly could have become a free agent in 2017 without a new pact.
Terms of the six-year deal were not immediately available. Luck was expected to make $16 million in the 2016 season under the old contract after making $7 million last season.
In his first four NFL seasons, Luck was named to three Pro Bowls (2012-14). In 2014, he set a franchise record for the most passing yards in a single season (4,761), topping former Colts QB Peyton Manning’s 2010 record of 4,700 yards.
In March, Colts owner Jim Irsay said he was hopeful to have the deal done with Luck before the July 4 holiday.
