Basket-like “Ultra-Urban” filters were installed in two Columbus parking lots where oil, antifreeze and other substances leaked from cars, to test the filters’ ability to purify stormwater runoff as the Indiana Department of Environmental Management began phasing in tougher stormwater purity laws to protect streams, lakes, rivers and wildlife.

1991

Columbus City Council detailed a budget that would freeze, and probably cut, the city’s share of the property tax rate for 1992.

1966

Ninety-six new teachers, believed to be the largest number in the history of local schools, were appointed to teaching positions for the 1966-67 school year in Bartholomew Consolidated schools.
