Republic staff reports

WESTPORT — A car show, parade and the 70th annual Westport Kiwanis Club community barbecue is on tap Friday through Sunday. Proceeds benefit Kiwanis community service projects.

Activities begin with a movie in the park, “Night at the Museum,” showing around 8 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $1 each, with children 3 and younger admitted free. Bring blankets and lawn chairs.

Registration for the car show runs from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Vehicles will be judged in four classes — prior to 1960, 1960 to 1985, 1986 to present, and motorcycles/all-terrain vehicles/military vehicles, with 75 trophies and awards to be presented starting at 4 p.m.

BBQ pork and pork chop dinners, plus other food, will be served starting at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s schedule includes games and competition during the morning and afternoon, plus music starting at 5:30 p.m.

The Main Street parade will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with a patriotic theme, with an honor ride added for this year’s parade. All veterans are invited to ride in a 1970 Kaiser-Jeep M35A2. Interested veterans should contact Mike Gasper at 812-614-4497 or Chris Bierhaus at 812-614-7761 and arrive by 1 p.m. at the Westport Fire Station.

Wrapping up Sunday’s events are a 4 p.m. church service and 5 p.m. concert.
