Several members of Bartholomew County garden clubs recently attended a wildflower workshop, titled “Wild Wings in the Wind,” at Matter Park Garden in Marion.
The event was hosted by the Central East District of The Garden Club of Indiana, and was attended by 117 garden club members from all seven Indiana districts. The special guest was Sandra Robinson, the president of National Garden Clubs Inc.
Participants attended workshops and programs throughout the day, with themes of wildflowers, birds, butterflies and gardening practices. They also witnessed a monarch butterfly tagged and released “into the wind.”
Members and guests enjoyed the Proven Winner Garden and a National Garden Club “overall winner” butterfly garden, a time to shop for butterfly garden kits, autographed books by the program speakers, shopping at the Ways and Means Department of the district and a catered lunch.
The Garden Club of Indiana Inc. is a non-profit educational organization, formed in 1930, to stimulate knowledge of gardening, promote civic beautification and aid in the protection of trees, plants and birds. More than 8,000 clubs exist and have more than 225,000 members from every state in the nation, plus National Plant Societies and international affiliates, and junior, intermediate and high school gardeners.
