A Columbus company plans to invest $3.9 million into a new production line early next year that eventually will create 21 new jobs.
The Columbus City Council last week approved a tax abatement for Rightway Fasteners Inc. to allow it to purchase and install equipment for a new zinc plating line at its facility at 7945 S. International Drive due to increased production.
The company currently employs 344 people and makes fasteners for the automotive industry, with Toyota its largest customer.
The investment will add six new jobs starting next year and five jobs each over the next three years, said Robin Hilber, community development programs coordinator.
Ron Miller, general manager at Rightway Fasteners Inc., said the upcoming zinc plating line has been in the works for about four years. The company recently completed an 80,000-square-foot building expansion earlier this year.
He expects hiring to begin for the six new positions in late March with the new line starting in May.
Miller said the new zinc plating line will also allow the company to replace some old equipment at the facility. The company experienced an electrical fire earlier this year that resulted in evacuation of 180 workers and damage to the zinc plating building.
