Empty Bowls senior project raises $12,118 for agencies

The 19th Annual Empty Bowls event on Saturday raised $12,118, to be shared among Love Chapel, Hope Community Food Bank, Turning Point Domestic Violence Services and Brighter Days Housing shelter.

Organizers said the crowd at Central Middle School was slightly smaller than last year’s group that raised $15,000.

“But we’re quite satisfied,” said Sarah Grey, one of the organizers. “We think it’s great.”

Grey added that so many people made the event a success, including the Columbus North High School cross country team that Sydney Perry recruited for clean-up duty. Perry, a North student, made the event her senior project.

The Empty Bowls menu features soups, chili, breads and desserts prepared by volunteers. The event also features handmade, souvenir bowls created by everyone from local students to area artists.
