A great help
The Columbus Salvation Army recently launched “Bags of Hope” to deliver groceries to clients of the food pantry program who cannot visit the office because of illness, disability or being a shut-in.
The project relies on volunteers to transport the food to clients once per month. Not only does this program help alleviate hunger locally, it serves a population that would otherwise struggle to obtain food.
We commend the local Salvation Army for starting the program and the volunteers who are delivering the food.

Fun and funds
IUPUC, the local Indiana University campus, had fun during the April 19 IU Day in Columbus. The school:
Announced its first mascot, Crimson Pride, for the Columbus campus
Raised money for the local campus
Distributed some money, too, in the form of $50,000 from Tom and Tina Vujovich of Columbus toward the Reach Your Dreams scholarship to assist qualified IUPUC students continue their education
Each year there’s more to celebrate about IUPUC’s key role in the region as a provider of higher education. This is another example.
AED locations: There’s an app for that
Kudos to Columbus North High School student Jennifer Gutman for her senior project to create a mobile app that shows locations of automated external defibrillators throughout Columbus.
The PulsePoint AED app is available for both Apple and Android users. It’s helpful to know where these life-saving devices are. AEDs provide an electric shock that allows the heart to re-establish an effective rhythm, and can be used to treat sudden cardiac arrest.
Gutman’s efforts with the app are important, because the information it provides could be crucial in a life-and-death situation.
