Services and studies

Terrace Lake Community Church — The church will host a worship night combining several Columbus churches, pastors and worship groups beginning at 6:30 p.m. today at the church, 4260 W. County Road 200S. Here Together of Columbus, Mountaintops of Indianapolis and Chris Scott of Athens Church, Columbus, will lead musical worship and Josh Burnett will speak on unity in the church.

First Baptist — The Rev. Dan Cash will deliver the communion message, “Who Touched My Clothes?,” with Scripture from Mark 5:21-43 during the 9:30 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 3300 Fairlawn Drive. Childcare is available for infants. Older children will remain during the service.

Classes for all ages will begin at 10:45 a.m.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

The Mending Ministry will gather at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at Four Seasons Retirement Community, 1901 Taylor Road, to do mending for the residents.

The Men of Faith Bible Study will meet at 6:15 a.m. Friday in the private dining room at Four Seasons Retirement Community. A new study, “Framing Metaphors from Paul: What they Meant and What they Mean,” will be led by Bill Griffith and Pastor Cash. All men of the church and community are welcome. Old Union United Church of Christ — Pastor Kirby Rupp will deliver the message, “Struggling with God!,” during the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 12703 N. County Road 50W, Edinburgh. Scripture will include Genesis 32:22-31, Romans 9:1-5 and Matthew 14:13-21. Sunday school will meet a 9 a.m. and Fellowship is at 9:40 a.m.

Flintwood Wesleyan — Sunday, Amplify (non-traditional) at 9 a.m. and The Well (traditional) at 11 a.m. will be in the main sanctuary, 5300 E. 25th St., led by Pastor Wes Jones on his series, “Stories of the Bible.” The Prayer Team will meet at 8 a.m. and Sunday School classes meet at 10 a.m. in their regular rooms. The evening service will begin at 6 p.m.

The Prayer Team will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and Adult Bible Study will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, both in the sanctuary.

Central Heights Church of God Life Groups for all ages, including nursery, start at 9:30 a.m. at the church, 3151 Sharon Lane, with service to follow at 10:30 a.m. The youth group, grades 6 to 12, will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Bible Study will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Kingdom builders for preschool to Grade 5 will be at 6 p.m. Friday.

First United Methodist — The Rev. Howard Boles will give the message, “Wrestling with God,” during the 9 a.m. traditional and 11 a.m. celebration services Sunday at the church, 618 Eighth Street. Scripture will be Genesis 32:22-32.

The next book club will meet at 6 p.m. Aug. 20 in the Fellowship Hall of the church to discuss “The Stonecutter’s Aria” by Carol Faenzi. The author will be present for the discussion. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the church office.

First Presbyterian — On this Communion Sunday, the sermon will be “Down to Our Last Supplies,” and will reflect on Matthew 14:13-21 and Genesis 32:22-31. Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. at the church, 512 Seventh St. Infant and toddler care is available from 9:15 to 11 a.m. The Men’s and Women’s Support groups meet at 7 a.m. Fridays and a second Men’s Support group meets at 6:15 a.m. every Monday.

People in need of a meal are invited to the Hot Meals program offered at 5 p.m. Friday, with entrance through the glass doors on Franklin Street.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbus — Minister Nic Cable will deliver the sermon, “The Road We Travel,” during the 10 a.m. Service Sunday at the church, 7850 W. Goeller Blvd., to kick of this month’s worship theme, “We Begin Again in Love.” All children and youth are encouraged to bring backpacks or toy bags for a special Blessing of the Backpacks.

St. Paul Lutheran — Pastor Doug Bauman will preach on the topic “Let Your Light Shine!” at Rally Day services at 8 and 10:45 a.m. Sunday. The church is located at 6045 E. State St.

Preschool through second-grade children will sing at the 10:45 a.m. service and a balloon release at 9:30 a.m. will be followed by Sunday school classes for children through high school. Adult Bible classes will be led by Larry Haak on “Lutheranism 101” and by Pastor Bauman on the book of Galatians.

Petersville United Methodist — The Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will deliver the message, “Chances,” at 9 a.m. Sunday at the church, 2781 N. County Road 500E. Barb Hedrick will be liturgist and read Psalms 99:5-9 and Teresa Covert will give the children’s sermon. Communion will be served and fellowship will follow the service.

United Methodist Men will meet at 7:15 a.m. Sunday with a business meeting conducted by Don Harris and book discussion led by Larry Nolting.

The walking group will meet at 9 a.m. Monday and Wednesday at the church and the prayer group will meet at 10 a.m., also at the church, with Barb Hedrick as leader.

The Fruitful Congregation Journey team will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Kirk Freeman, the Fruitful Congregation Journey coach for Petersville, will give the message Aug. 27.

Westside Community — Pastor Dennis Aud will preach on the topic “The Prayer Jesus Wouldn’t Pray” from John 17:13-25 during the 10 a.m. service Sunday. The church is located at State Road 46 West and Tipton Lake Boulevard. The children’s program meets at the same time for infants through grade 6.

A six-week women’s small group meets from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Wednesdays at the church. Barbara Gardner is leader. Lessons are stand alone and a Bible is the only book required.

North Christian — “Small But Mighty,” from Ephesians 3:14-21 and John 6:1-14, will be the sermon topic. Morning News Class will be at 8 a.m., worship service at 10:30 a.m. and fellowship at 11:45 p .m. Childcare is provided and the church is handicapped accessible.

Events

St. Paul Lutheran — The church’s early childhood ministry will host its 11th Annual Golf Scramble Sept. 16 at Shadowood Golf Course, 333 N. Sandy Creek Drive, Seymour. Sign-in will open at 8 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

Entry fee is $200 per foursome or $50 per individual and includes a continental breakfast, practice balls, greens fees with cart, lunch and prizes.

First Baptist — The annual Seeds of Love 5K race will be run Sept. 16, starting at the church, 3300 Fairlawn Drive. All proceeds will be given to Love Chapel. Registration information: signmeup.com/120575.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The first day of GLOW, formerly JAM, will begin Aug. 9 with supper at 5:30 p.m. at the church, 5300 E. 25th St. The monthly Senior Adult Ministry luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 10. Boy Scout Troop 588 will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 10.

The church’s second annual Building Hope 5K/Walk will be at 9 a.m. Aug. 19 with pre-event activities beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the church; registration and sign-in start at 8 a.m. The registration fee is $25 for adults and $15 for children. Central Heights Church of God — The film, “Boss Baby” will be shown at 8 p.m. on Aug. 25 during an outside movie night.
