BOYS BASKETBALL

Lancers down Spartans

SHELBYVILLE — Edinburgh kicked off the Keith Witty Era with a win Tuesday night with a 56-47 Mid-Hoosier Conference win at Southwestern (Shelby).

The Lancers led 27-18 at halftime and held on to give Witty his first varsity coaching victory.

Christian Cox led Edinburgh with 13 points. Coltan Henderson added 11, and Bryce Burton had 10.

Panthers open with win

BATESVILLE — The Jennings County No. 2 varsity team opened its season with a 45-32 win Tuesday at Batesville.

Joey Moran (132), Hunter Salsman (145), Tyler Ellis (170), Blake Mitchell (285) and Jenn Ramirez (106) all won by pin for the Panthers. Logan Askew (195) won by forfeit.

Jennings’ Sam Bennett (182) won by major decision. Michael Pemberton (126) won by decision.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Red Devils top Panthers

JEFFERSONVILLE — Jennings County dropped its Hoosier Hills Conference opener 69-43 Tuesday at Jeffersonville.

Addyson Kent led the Panthers (1-4, 0-1) with 12 points on four 3-pointers. Baylee Byford added 10 points.
