Three Club Olympia swimmers earned High-Point Awards in their age divisions at last weekend’s FAST (Fishers Area Swim Team) Santa Claus Classic against some highly-ranked teams from Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan.
Misha Machavariani won 10 of his 11 events and placed second in the one event he didn’t win to score 261 points and win the high-point trophy for the 9-10-year-old boys age group.
Nalanie Cortez scored 178 points in her eight 11-12 girls events, swimming the 19th-fastest 500-yard freestyle in the nation for a 12-year old girl. Cortez won four events, was second in three, and fourth in her eighth event to win the high-point trophy for her age group.
Rachel Sabotin also won high-point for the 15-and-over girls, scoring 165½ points by winning two of her eight events, placing second twice and finishing third in three events.
Brady Beyer also was in the race for high point until he chose to swim the Open 200 Backstroke as his third event on the final day of competition instead of one of the 11-12 boys events. Beyer scored 150 points in his seven 11-12 races by winning two events, placing second in three, and finishing in fourth and seventh in two other. He was 17th in the men’s Open 200 backstroke.
Daniella Preston picked up some Divisional cuts for 11-12 girls events as she ages up before the championship season in March. Preston scored 115 points in her eight 10-and-under events, placing fifth in two and eighth in two.
Pratt Badve would have scored more than his 48 points, but he had to scratch out of finals in three events one night to play the drums in a band marching in the Festival of Lights parade. He placed sixth in two of his three 11-12 boys events on the final day and achieved some 13-14 Divisional cuts as he turns 13 at the end of the year.
Zoie Chandelkar had 131 points from her 10 8-and-under events, finishing as high as seventh in two races. Chandelkar, Nandini Kondhare, Sanaa Kulkarni and Lovely Panda finished third in the 8-and-under girls 100 freestyle relay.
Badve, Beyer, Arjun Bhadoria and Aidan Castillo swam on both 11-12 boys relays, placing fifth in the 200 freestyle relay and sixth in the 200 medley relay.
Sabotin, Cortez, Maggie Johnson and Abigail Castillo placed sixth in the Open 200 medley relay and ninth in the Open 200 freestyle relay. Chandelkar, Maddie Beyer, Preston and Brooklyn Pendleton took 19th in the 10-and-under girls 200 medley relay.
Donner swimmers shine
Several Donner Swim Club athletes posted personal-best times in last weekend’s Seymour Swim Club Winter Invitational.
Connelly Furnish and Grier Lane paced the Donner 8-and-under girls, with Furnish winning the 100 freestyle and 50 backstroke and Lane placing first in the 50 butterfly and 100 IM. Furnish placed second in the 50 butterfly, and Lane placed third in the 100 freestyle.
Mridula Muthukumaran won the 25 backstroke and finished second in the 100 IM and third in the 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle.
The 8-and-under boys were led by 6-year-old Xavier Zhang, who placed first in the 25 breaststroke, 25 freestyle, 25 backstroke and 25 butterfly. Levi Bense placed sixth in the 25 breaststroke and 25 freestyle.
The 9-10 girls were led by Ainsley Sherlock, who placed first in the 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke, second in the 200 IM and third in the 200 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly. Cassidy Furnish placed fourth in the 50 breaststroke. Hannah Dean placed fourth in the 100 backstroke.
Keaton Stephenson, in the 9-10 boys division, won the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 50 breaststroke and 50 backstroke and placed second in the 100 breaststroke. Hudson Eicher took second in the 100 backstroke and third in the 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle. Jacob Havenaar placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke.
For the 11-12 girls, Karissa Bevis placed second in the 50 backstroke and 100 breaststroke, third in the 50 breaststroke, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle.
Daniel Utterback, for the 11-12 boys, won the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly, 50 backstroke and 100 backstroke. Jude Abdallah placed fourth in the 100 breastroke.
In the 13-and-over girls age group, Ellie Proffitt won the 50 freestyle, and finished second in the 100 freesytle and 200 freestyle and third in the 200 backstroke. Paige Maddox took third in the 200 freestyle. Karissa Miller placed first in the 200 backstroke and third in the 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Sammi Hoovler placed first in the 200 butterfly, second in the 200 IM and 50 freestyle.
Matthew Goble placed first in the 13-and-over boys 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly and third in the 100 backstroke.
Hockey
Icemen split pair
The Columbus Icemen beat Perry “B” 8-0 and fell to Hamilton Southeastern 3-2 last weekend.
Payton Donica, Chris Martin and Mark Mayhew each scored two goals against Perry, while Joe Neal and Danny Prochazka each added one. Neal had three assists, while Donica and Andrew Roese each added two and Sam Thomasson, Logan Morris, Andrew Clark, Blaine Humphrey and Matt Jordan all contributed one assists. Ben Kushner recorded four saves.
Jordan scored both Icemen goals against Hamilton Southeastern. Mayhew had two assists, and Roese added one. Cam Stattenfield posted 20 saves.
Broomball
Tsunamis stay on top
The Toyota Tsunamis remained unbeaten at 5-0-1 with an 8-1 win against Slappin’ Balls. Matt Street, Greg McNealy and Jimmy Robertson all scored two goals for Tsunamis, while Dalton McNealy and Clayton McNealy each added one. Aaron Klene scored for Slappin’ Balls.
Flying Zambonis kept pace at 4-0-1 with a 2-0 shutout of CCA Kutters. Josh Daugherty and Shawn Bauman had the goals.
Hansons and Wicked Sisters played to a 2-2 tie. Dani Kareus scored both goals for Wicked Sisters, while Dave VanValkenburg and Matt Psota scored for Hansons.
Yoopers and Our Name Is Earl tied 1-1. Josh D’Anna had the Yoopers goal, and Thomas Andre scored for Our Name Is Earl.

Jennings 7th grade wins
The Jennings County seventh-grade boys White team beat Scottsburg 53-23 on Thursday. Alex Leach led the Panthers (8-2) with 18 points, while Jacob Scruggs added 15.
The Jennings eighth-grade boys White team (7-3) fell to Scottsburg 40-36. Jacob Vogel scored 18 points, and Carson McNulty added 13.
Also Thursday, the Panther seventh-grade boys Blue team lost to Southwestern 31-22. Cole Marksberry led Jennings (7-3) with eight points.
Jennings’ eighth-grade boys Blue team (2-8) fell to Southwestern 74-20. Ian Sawyer scored six points.

Panther 8th-graders split
The Jennings County eighth-grade girls White team (5-1) bounced back from a 49-45 loss to Immanuel Lutheran with a 39-6 rout of Bedford. Kali Thompson scored 13 points, and Megan Schuler added 10 against Immanuel. Lucy Ernstes had 10 against Bedford.
The Panthers eighth-grade girls Blue team (1-3) fell to Crothersville 41-28 before picking up its first win of the season, a 48-24 decision against St. Bartholomew. Emily Hatton scored 17 points against Crothersville and 19 against St. Bartholomew.
Jennings’ seventh-grade girls Blue team downed Crothersville 39-10. Breanne Galyen scored 15 points, and Katie Gasper added 13.
The Panther seventh-grade girls White team (0-3) fell to Bedford 30-19. Taylor Mowery scored eight points.

‘Discretion’ raises cash, toys
Hoosier Pro Wrestling’s “Discretion” and Firemen’s Cheer Fund Toy Drive raised $478 in cash, a new bike valued at $80 and $600 in toys.
In the ring, Ace Jackson battled Tim Lutz to a 10-minute draw to keep the HPW Cruiserweight title. Echo The Evil Clown pinned Scarecrow, and Vic The Bruiser beat Omega Pit Bull by DQ.
Butcher Manson pinned Buck Sexton, and the Bambino Family beat Fireball and Prime. Kenny Cage with Richard Sharkey and D Rose beat Dynamite Dillen to win the HPW Heavyweight championship.
HPW returns Jan. 6 to the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds.
