The first of several short-term closures of overpasses over Interstate 65 in southern Bartholomew County, as well as most of Jackson County, will take place this month.
The County Road 625S overpass across Interstate 65, about 2 miles south of the Walesboro-Ogilville exit, will close on or after April 16, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.
While the closure could last as long as eight weeks, the contractor intends to have the bridge reopened by June 8, the INDOT notice stated.
Serving mainly as a link between two county roads — 100W and 250W — in a rural area, a small amount of daily traffic crosses the County Road 625S overpass.
Nevertheless, transportation officials with the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. have been notified so they can consider possible route adjustments.
Further south, motorists who drive along what is commonly called County Line Road also will have to find a detour.
The 55-day closure of this road, which is formally called Jackson County Road 1100 North, is scheduled to begin on or after April 9.
These are the first of several overpasses being renovated as workers prepare to expand I-65 to three lanes from State Road 58 to U.S. 50 near Seymour.
But INDOT officials have assured both Bartholomew and Jackson County authorities that no overpass will be closed while an adjacent bridge also is under construction.
The entire I-65 Southeast Indiana Project is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 5, 2020.
