Bridge closed for painting

Beginning Monday, a bridge north of Anderson Falls Park in Clifty Township will be closed for nearly a month.

County Road 300 North will be off-limits to traffic northeast of the intersection of Road 1100E for three to four weeks, according to the Bartholomew County Highway Department.

The closure, which begins at 8 a.m. Monday, is required for painting Bridge 39.

Last year, county highway officials said the river crossing has a low-traffic volume of 130 vehicles daily.

In addition, people living near the structure, who have alternative routes available, have become accustomed to having the 103-foot-long Pratt truss bridge closed.

It was off-limits to traffic for two years, from May 2015 until last fall, due to heavy rusting of critical beams.

But a new deck was placed on the structure late last year after the county received $54,649 as part of the 2017 Community Crossings matching grant program.
