Bulldogs edge Knights

JEFFERSONVILLE — No. 30-ranked Castle won the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches Friday night, but No. 14 took the other three to pull out a 3-2 victory in the opening round of the Jeffersonville Invitational.

Jaline Tay beat Sravani Ravipati 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Bull Dogs (4-0). Madelyn Sanders and Eva Chevalier blanked Radha Patel and Adrienne Bryant 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and Ali Bergman and Servane Cloteaux downed Elizabeth Cluck and Carly Frazier 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

North’s Yijiang Zhao fell to Chrissy Fuller 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Shweta Srinivasan lost to Madison Devillez 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

The Bull Dogs are scheduled to continue the tournament at 9 a.m. today against Jeffersonville and at noon against New Albany.

Panthers blank Rebels

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County won all five matches in straight sets in a 5-0 win against Southwestern (Hanvoer).

Rebecca Driver beat Emma Foley 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Hailey Brown downed Autumn Harmon 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Ellie Hearne topped Sam Sutherd 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (2-2).

Maddy Hill and Callie Wilder beat Laney Marshall and Ashlyn Cloud at No. 1 doubles, and Courtney Lykins and Abigail DeCamp downed Zoe Griffin and Addy Leach at No. 2 doubles, both by 6-2, 6-0 scores.

TRACK AND FIELD

Eagle takes 17th place

INDIANAPOLIS — Brown County’s Wyatt Wyman finished 17th in 4 minutes, 25.02 seconds Friday night in the “Miracle Mile,” the feature event in the Franklin Central Showcase, which brings together many of the state’s top distance runners.

Columbus North’s Charlie Allen took 59th in 4:38.71. North’s Sam Horak was 73rd in 4:42.25.

North’s Collin Pruitt finished 33rd in the Freshman Mile in 4:57.23. Brown County took 12th in the 4×800-meter relay in 8:31.37, and the Bull Dogs were 17th in 8:37.73.

SOFTBALL

Lancers shut out Cougars

EDINBURGH — Maddi Clark threw a two-hitter and struck out 12 to lead Edinburgh to a 10-0, five-inning Mid-Hoosier Conference win against South Decatur.

Emma Wade went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs, and Morgan Calhoun went 2 for 2 with a double for the Lancers (4-2, 3-1). Clark and Gracie Long each went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs

Claire Wullenweber took the loss for the Cougars (0-6, 0-4).

BASEBALL

Panthers rout Pirates

GREENSBURG — Josh Pettit went 2 for 4 with a triple, a home run and three RBIs and struck out 12 in six innings to lead Jennings County to a 16-6 win at Greensburg.

Owen Deaton went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs for the Panthers (2-2). Chase Reason went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Jamin VanVolkenburgh went 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs.

BOYS GOLF

Tigers topple Lancers

INDIANAPOLIS — Edinburgh fell to Triton Central 155-233 at Dakota Landing.

Bladen Hancock led the Lancers with a 41. Noah Childers and Darius Bennett each shot 63, and Zach Burton had a 66.
