
COLUMBUS
Nancy McKinney Fleetwood, 92, of Columbus, died at 9:05 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2018 at Silver Oaks Health Campus.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, on March 25, 1926, Mrs. Fleetwood was the daughter of Charles S. and Laura Bowen McKinney.
She married Carl E. Fleetwood on August 20, 1949 in St. Louis.
Mrs. Fleetwood was a teacher in Franklin, Randolph, Fayette and Bartholomew counties for 33. 5 years, the last 17 of which were in Columbus.
She was a graduate of Western College for Women, earned a master’s degree at Ball State University (formerly Ball State Teacher’s College).
She was passionate about travel which led her to visit all 50 states, scores of foreign countries, and step foot on all seven continents.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, having served on the board of elders; the senior center; the Indiana State Teachers Association; and the Bartholomew County Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. Fleetwood was preceded in death by her husband on December 2, 1974; her parents; sister, Jane Peachee; and a stepfather, Charles Crews.
Survivors include her sons Carl E. “Gene” Jr. (Shannon) of Visalia, California, George S. (Jennifer) of Indianapolis, and Charles H. (Brenda) of Columbus. Her grandchildren are Carl A. and Sally Moss of Columbus, Hannah and Emma Fleetwood and step-granddaughter Heather Pena of Visalia, and George H. (Hank) Fleetwood of Indianapolis. She is also survived by a niece, Nancy (George) Lombardi, and nephew, Ted (Susan) Peachee, of Missouri.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to time of service. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Dale Cemetery in Connersville.
The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
