North stymies Carmel

CARMEL — Parker Maddox threw a two-hitter Friday night to lead Class 4A No. 9 Columbus North to an 8-1 win at Carmel.

Maddox had a no-hitter through 5 2/3 innings and gave up his only run in the seventh. The Bull Dogs (9-3) gave him plenty of cushion with a four-run first and a 6-0 lead after two innings.

Grant Trinkle went 3 for 4 to lead North’s 12-hit attack. Adam Chapman went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Maddox and Homare Takauchi each went 2 for 4 and Austin Bode had a triple and two RBIs.

Jets rout Mohawks

HOPE — Parker Eickbush threw a two-hitter and struck out 13, and Trey Johnson went 4 for 5 with two doubles, a triple and three RBIs to lead Class A No. 1 Hauser to a 21-0, five-inning Mid-Hoosier Conference win against Waldron.

Sean Miller went 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs for the Jets (9-2, 6-0). Kobe Meahl and Jacob Luken each went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Parker Eickbush went 2 for 5 with a double and Jordan Johnson had three RBIs.

Owls blank Panthers

SEYMOUR — Jayden Brown and Tiller Cummings combined on a one-hitter to lead Seymour to a 9-0 win against Jennings County.

Owen Deaton led off the seventh with a single for the lone hit for the Panthers (2-6).

Jets win Lancer Relays

EDINBURGH — The Hauser girls won seven events to claim Edinburgh’s Lancer Relays for the first time in April Dalton’s 15 years of coaching.

The Jets scored 106 points to 96 for North Decatur and 91 for South Decatur. Edinburgh finished sixth with 15.

Grace Hasler won the 100-meter hurdles (15.6 seconds) and ran on the winning 4×100 (53.5), 4×200 (2:05), 4×400 (4:49) and shuttle hurdle (1:01) relay teams. Grace Isley took the 100 (13.4) and ran on the winning 4×100 and 4×400 teams and teamed with Mel Hasler to win the long jump (28 feet, 6 1/4 inches). Mel Hasler also ran on the winning 4×100, 4×400 and shuttle hurdle relay teams. Ashley Chambers and Erin Newcomb combined to win the high jump (9-0).

South Decatur’s Whitnye Burton and Lana Bell won the shot put (148-2 1/2). The Cougars Kyra Johnson, Larissa Lair, Tanisha Bushhorn and Hannah Miller also took the sprint medley (2:16).

Southwestern (Shelby) won the boys meet with 132 points to 93 for the Jets. South Decatur was sixth with 40.

Hauser’s David Seelye won the 1,600 (5:01.6) and teamed with Brock Thalls, Eugene Wanglia and Ryan Alut to take the distance medley relay (12:16.7). South Decatur’s Trent Nobbe ton the 110 hurdles (16.6) and teamed with ryce Kearney, Logan Platt and Charlie Hamilton to take the shuttle hurdle relay (56.4)/

Panthers take sixth

FRANKLIN — The Jennings County boys finished sixth with 59 points in Thursday’s Bedford North Lawrence Ted Fox Invitational for freshmen and sophomores. Floyd Central won with 123.

Jason Gasper, Carter Leak, Gavin Hendrix and A.J. Siener won the 4×800 relay in 8:55.98. Finishing second for the Panthers were Jared Corya in the high jump (5-8), Kyle Collins in the 100 (11.94), Gasper in the 800 (2:10.22) and Leak in the 3,200 (10:14.82).

GIRLS TENNIS

Trojans topple Bull Dogs

GREENWOOD — Columbus North won the No. 1 doubles match at co-No. 7 Center Grove, but won only eight games in the other four matches in a 4-1 loss.

Madelyn Sanders and Eva Chevalier beat Emily Hoy and Ashlee Fisk 7-5, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles for the Bull Dogs (4-2).

North’s Yiijiang Zhao fell to Isabelle Schoolcraft 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Shweta Srinivasan lost to Ellie Strube 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Jaline Tay fell to Jillian Garrett 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Ali Bergman and Servane Cloteaux lost to Abby Hoard and Holyn Aukerman 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Lancers edge Mohawks

WALDRON — Sophia Parmer pulled out a three-set win at No. 2 singles to give Edinburgh a 3-2 MHC win at Waldron.

Parmer beat Caroline Schaeffer 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. The other two wins for the Lancers (2-5, 1-1) came by forfeit at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

Edinburgh’s Haley Jones fell to Haley Huber 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Paige Johnson lost to Lily Sizemore 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

SOFTBALL

Knights top Crusaders

Columbus Christian led 4-3 after three innings, but Traders Point Christian rallied for a 10-7 victory.

Kayden Hofelich went 3 for 4 with a triple for the Crusaders (1-1). Emily Warren went 2 for 4 with three RBIs.

BOYS GOLF

Panthers third in tri

MADISON — Jennings County finished third in a tri match at Sunrise. Host Madison won with a 157, and Southwestern (Hanover) edged the Panthers 184-185.

Bryce Kirchner led Jennings with a 44. Hunter Conrad carded a 45, Austin Roscoe added a 46 and Joe Kelley had a 50.
