Bartholomew County Councilwoman Laura DeDomenic was elected president of the new Substance Abuse Public Funding Board, a governing board made up of city and county officials who will determine funding for substance abuse programming.
Columbus City Council President Frank Miller was elected as the boar’s vice president.
At the inaugural meeting on Tuesday, the board accepted a slate of members for the Substance Abuse Advisory and Accountability Committee, who will consider funding requests and make recommendations to the public funding board.
Members include representatives from city and county law enforcement, the courts, the Alliance for Substance Abuse Progress in Bartholomew County, Columbus Regional Health, service providers and community members.
Committee members were asked by the board to develop an application and reporting document for substance abuse projects and programs when public finding requests are made.
Among the information to be provided is contact information, whether other programs similar to what is being requested exist, length of time and sustainability of the program, number of people served, including the duration and type of funding and whether it is capital or operational.
The board set its annual meeting for the second Tuesday in January each year, but agreed to meet as needed throughout the year, providing the necessary notification under the state’s open meeting requirements.
