Olympians take 10th

BLOOMINGTON — Columbus East finished 10th, and the Columbus North junior varsity came in 15th in Saturday’s Bloomington North Invitational.

Top-ranked Center Grove set a tournament record with a 277 at Cascades in winning the event by 20 shots over Brebeuf Jesuit. The Olympians finished with a 325, and the Bull Dogs had a 357.

Kody Reynolds led East with a 73. Mark Mayhew carded an 83, Adrian Adams added an 84, Avery Foist shot 85 and Layton Erfmeier had a 92.

Cameron Ziegler led North with an 86. Jackson Kerber carded an 88, Michael Giambiani added a 91, Conner Williams shot 92 and Carter Ward had a 102.

Bull Dogs finish 15th

CARMEL — Columbus North finished 15th in the Spring Preview at Prairie View, site of the state finals. No. 2 Carmel won with a 291.

Drew Smith led the Bull Dogs with a 75. Henry Kiel carded a 78, Jacob Niedbalski added an 83, Reese Moore shot 89 and Luke VanDeventer had a 93.

Cougars third, Jets fourth

Trinity Lutheran finished third, Hauser fourth and Edinburgh seventh in the Hauser Invitational.

Henryville won the tournament with a 316 at Clifty Creek. Trinity finished with a 353, while Hauser shot 383 and Edinburgh 486.

Jacob Keith led the Cougars with an 85, Noah Criswell carded an 87, Mark Shoemaker added an 89, Ryland Nierman shot 92 and Josiah Foster had a 98.

Justin Compton tied for second individually with a 77 to lead the Jets. Ethan Wallace carded a 92, Sam Johnson added a 97, Justin Stafford shot 117 and Justice Gilliland had a 121.

The Lancers’ Bladen Hancock tied for second with Compton at 77. Ediburgh’s Zach Burton added a 131, Noah Childers shot 138 and Darius Bennett had a 140.

Panthers notch fifth

BATESVILLE — Jennings County finished fifth with a 361 in the Batesville Invitational at Hillcrest. Madison won with a 316.

Bryce Kirchner finished fourth individually with an 81 to lead the Panthers. Austin Roscoe carded a 90, Hunter Conrad added a 93, Joe Kelley shot 97 and Zach Bingham had a 105.

East wins one of three

ELLETTSVILLE — Columbus East had several girls missing because of prom and finished 1-2 in the Edgewood Invitational. The Olympians fell to Monrovia 8-0, beat Shakamak 8-6 and lost to Edgewood 14-1 in six innings.

Kaitlin Brummett went 2 for 3 with a double against Monrovia.

East pounded out 18 hits in the win against Shakamak. Brummett went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, Madyson Foster went 3 for 5, and winning pitcher Jenna Robbins went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. Jordan Johnston went 2 for 3 and pitched the final two innings to earn a save, while Becca Carter and Katelyn Murphy each went 2 for 4 and Madison Green had two RBIs.

Foster went 2 for 2, and Brummett went 2 for 3 for the Olympians (9-10) against Edgewood.

Shawe sweeps Crusaders

MADISON — Columbus Christian led 4-1 in the first game and 5-3 in the second game, but Madison Shawe rallied to win 14-4 in six innings and 6-5 for a doubleheader sweep.

Kyle Foster went 2 for 3 in the opener. Gabe Ridder had a double and two RBIs.

Tyler Bumbalough went 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs in the second game for the Crusaders (1-7). Foster went 2 for 3 with a double.

Brown County falls

NASHVILLE — Brown County trailed only 4-2 after six innings, but Monrovia scored five times in the seventh to pull away for a 9-3 Western Indiana Conference win.

Jake Riehl went 2 for 3 for the Eagles (4-14).
