Driver arrested after accused of hitting house with stolen car

Columbus police arrested a local man after he was accused of crashing a stolen car into a house an fleeing on foot.

Officers were in the area of Hinman Street and Indiana Avenue at 12:38 p.m. Tuesday and observed a stolen Honda Accord traveling at a high rate of speed there, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The stolen vehicle nearly hit a Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department patrol car and then crashed into a house on South Hinman Street, causing minor damage, Harris said.

The driver of the car, Cameron B. Sampson, 26, Columbus, fled on foot from the crashed vehicle and was caught a short time later.

He was arrested on preliminary charges of auto theft, leaving the scene of an accident, resisting law enforcement and a Bartholomew County warrant, jail officials said.
