Hauser senior signs with Manchester

Mason Sherman thought his competitive basketball career was over after Hauser lost to eventual Class A state champion Morristown in the sectional.

But after a couple weeks, Sherman started missing the game and realized he’d like to play at the collegiate level. On Friday, he finalized that decision when he signed a letter-of-intent to play at Manchester.

“Whenever the season got over, I thought I was going to be OK, but I was really missing it and just talking to the coaches, they really pushed me to play,” Sherman said. “My coaches had a long talk with me and put some film together and sent out to some colleges I was interested in. The ones that contacted them saying they were interested, I went and visited and had workouts with them.”

Sherman averaged 13.5 points and 2.4 rebounds and led the Jets with 1.7 steals as a senior in helping Hauser to the Mid-Hoosier Conference title.

Hauser graduate Silas Sims played basketball at Manchester, and Sherman’s cousin Wade Teltoe from Edinburgh played football there. Sherman plans to major in criminal justice.

“I loved the campus, and when I got up there, I got to talk to the coach, and he seemed really interested,” Sherman said. “We just really clicked together, and the team was really encouraging to me.”

Sims makes All-Missouri Valley Conference again

Indiana State’s Leslie Sims has made the All-Missouri Valley Conference softball first team for the second consecutive year.

Sims, a sophomore second baseman from Hauser, finished with a .410 batting average, the second-best single-season mark in Sycamores history. She ranks second in the MVC and 48th nationally with 68 hits and is one of only six players in the nation to have at least 20 stolen bases without being caught.

Indiana State’s season came to an end Friday with a 3-2 loss to Valparaiso in the MVC Tournament.
