COLUMBUS
Samuel C. Bateman, 70, of Columbus, passed from this life at 6:10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Room.
Mr. Bateman retired from Rolls-Royce in 2011 as a quality engineer where he had worked for 10 years. He was formerly employed with Cummins Engine Co. for 20 years.
Samuel was a long-time supporter of youth sports, volunteering his time coaching and refereeing.
Private family viewing is planned, and a celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

Samuel was born, November 7, 1947 in Wolcottville. He was the son of Don R. and Jane Wilson Bateman.
He married his high school sweetheart, Vickie Seelig, on July 6, 1968.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years; his children, Kirk Bateman of Indianapolis, Kristin (Jonathan) Martin, Brent Bateman, both of Columbus, and Ryan (Amanda) Bateman of Seymour; grandchildren, Emma Martin, Krea Martin, Ryleigh Bateman, Claire Bateman, Keller Bateman and Wyatt Bateman; sister-in-law, Deb (Jan) VanZant of Fort Wayne, brothers-in-law, Bill (Sheryl) Seelig of Florida and Mike Seelig of Fort Wayne; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Don R. Bateman; mother, Jane Whitehair; and his sister, Wanda Landers.
