Betty Frances Peyton Black, 75, of Columbus, formerly of Lawrenceburg, widow of Robert Lee Black, died Monday, May, 14, 2018 at Taylor Manor in Versailles.
She was born in Anderson County to the late Charles Frank and Juanita Frances Hawkins Peyton.
Betty was a member at Garden City Church of Christ and Sand Spring Baptist Church.
She was a 1961 graduate of Anderson High School, and graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Kentucky University; and a Master of Science in Education in 1969 from Indiana University.
She began her teaching career in the fall of 1965 where she taught at Wayne Township Elementary in Bartholomew County until the spring of 1982; in the fall of 1982 she started teaching at Taylorsville Elementary in Taylorsville where she retired, in June of 2000.
She is survived by her stepson, Brent Lee Black; stepgrandson, Jack, both of Santa Fe, New Mexico; sister, Linda Charlene Peyton Smith, of Salvisa; niece, Cindy (Chris) Copenhaver, Lawrenceburg; nephew, Doug Caldwell, Frankfort; two great-nieces, Courtney Turpin and Cheyenne Searcy, great-nephew, Jeremy Turpin; and step-great-nieces, Mattie and Maison Copenhaver, all of Lawrenceburg.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Gash Memorial Chapel with Dr. Mike Hamrick officiating. Burial will follow at Sand Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, May 17, 2018, 4 to 7 p.m. at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. Another visitation will be Friday, May 18, 2018, 5-8 p.m. at Gash Memorial Chapel. Gash Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
