Theresa Marie Sublette, 54, passed away from ovarian cancer in her home on May 13, 2018.

She was born in Indianapolis on May 12, 1964, to Bill and Sharon Johnson.

After graduating Indiana State University with a degree in math education, Theresa married Mark Sublette on December 20, 1986. They remained happily married for 31 years.

Following a brief period in which she obtained an accounting eegree from Indiana University and worked as an accountant, Theresa returned to her true calling, teaching.

Her 17-year career began at Hanover Middle School, and then took her to Center Grove Middle School, Central Middle School and finally Columbus East High School, where she concluded her career.

Midway through her time as teacher, Theresa took a break to be a full-time mom for her four children: Jacqueline, Jennifer, Michael and Matthew. She was a fantastic mother.

Theresa loved life and threw much of her passion for it into her hobbies. She was an avid runner and took up cycling later in her life, completing the London Marathon in 2001 and the 160-mile RAIN Ride (Ride Across Indiana) in 2014.

While teaching at Columbus East, she enjoyed serving as the head coach of the Mathematics Academic Team.

In the years immediately preceding her passing, Theresa loved life in her cabin in the woods near Brown County, where she and her husband, Mark, embraced the quiet beauty of nature.

She cared for and dearly loved all her family and friends, as well as her four cats — Fred, Java, Theo and Indy.

Theresa is survived by her husband, Mark; her parents, Bill and Sharon; her four children, Jacqueline (Stuart) Petersen, Jennifer (Anthony) Cox, Michael and Matthew; her siblings, Bill (Lisa) Johnson, Ken (Ellen) Johnson, Kevin (Sandy) Johnson and Pam (Brent) Ernsting; and her grandson in-utero, Andrew Cox.

The memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Saturday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 1306 27th St., Columbus, with Father Marty Peter as celebrant.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, 1029 Washington St., Columbus.
