Sheryl E. “Sherry” Tracey, 68, of Columbus, surrounded by family and friends, went to be with her Lord on Monday, May 14, 2018.
Sherry was born October 14, 1949, in Jackson County, to parents Charles W. and Thelma (Lawson) Shelton.
Sherry was a creative writer with a journalism degree from Indiana University.
Her creative skills took her through many experiences including newspaper reporting and editing. She was also a national account marketing manager, and worked in industrial communications and most recently as manager of resource development for Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Sherry placed her greatest value and joy in her family, friends, and her faith.
She was a member of the St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Parish and enjoyed assisting with the women’s retreat activities and supporting the music ministry concert series.
She was a lover of animals and it was not uncommon for her to rescue an animal in need and find a home needing a pet to love.
Sherry is survived by her brother, Michael W. Shelton and his wife, Sally (Gooley) Shelton; nephews, Toby J. Stigdon and Andrew “Andy” Hammond; an aunt, Jean and her husband, Paul Adams; and many loving cousins.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Charles W. Shelton and Thelma M. (Lawson) Shelton; and a sister, Nancy C. Hammond.
A Mass of Christian Burial will at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2018, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Clem Davis officiating. Visitation will be 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Inurnment will follow at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
