Edinburgh man arrested after pursuit

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies arrested an Edinburgh man who led them on a chase after the vehicle he was driving was reported stolen from Circle K in Taylorsville.

Deputy Matt Bush was at East and Mulberry streets in Edinburgh when he saw the stolen vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on East Street at 2:33 p.m. Saturday, deputies said.

When Bush attempted to stop the vehicle, a pursuit began, traveling through Edinburgh before the vehicle ran off the road and the driver fled on foot, with deputies following him, a sheriff’s department news release said.

Bush saw the driver, later identified as Christopher D. Branum, 33, of 503 W. Park St., Edinburgh, enter a residence in the 500 block of West Park Drive, deputies said.

He was arrested on preliminary charges of auto theft, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, reckless driving, operating a vehicle without ever receiving a driver’s license and a court order, deputies said.

Branum was being held in the Bartholomew county Jail in lieu of $70,000 bond, jail officials said.
