Letter: Love children above all

From: Kenneth Landreth

On Friday, May 18, there was another shooting at a school in Texas. It just goes on and on. Ten killed, 13 wounded; one was too many.

This story brought back to mind a couple of things I had written. Number one was, when a person wakes up in the morning, he or she should look out the window. Is it snowing, raining or is the sun shining? Whatever, it’s a great day. The person woke up and is alive. Before people leave for work, or wherever they’re is going, they should give their wife or husband a kiss, hug them tight and give their children a hug and tell them they love them. This world we live in today, it could be the last time anyone sees their children, or they see their parents.

Number two, I wrote a short story about a boy, titled “The boy that saved the children.” Why? Because Mom and Dad were to busy trying to keep all the bills paid, and had no time left to help that boy. Yes, they loved their boy, but that came too late.

What I’m trying to say is, love your child. Parents are the one that brought him or her into this world. They should hug them, hold them close, show them they love them, listen to them. One can learn a lot just by talking and listening to children.

Many of us are struggling to make ends meet. Just remember that family, that child must come first before the new care, the new home or maybe the new boat.

In closing, people shouldn’t live the rest of their lives grieving because they lost a child because something else came first — or someone else’s child was lost as a result of what their child did. If parents love their child, they should show them they love them, and help them grow up.

Maybe parents can stop another tragedy. They should know their child.
