TAYLORSVILLE — A Columbus man was struck by a semi and killed while attempting to cross the southbound lanes of I-65 near the 74-mile marker on foot early Monday morning, Indiana State Police said.
A silver 2006 Toyota Avalon driven by Justin S. Mills, 27, was traveling south near the 74-and-a-half mile marker at about 1 a.m. Monday when the vehicle went into the median and struck the cable barrier before stopping, Indiana State Trooper Korry Clark said.
Mills left the vehicle and went to the nearby rest area, and then attempted to cross the southbound lanes of the interstate to return to his car, state police said.
Mills was struck and killed by a 2015 Kenworth semi pulling a box trailer driven by Carlos E. Zepeda, 48, of Greenwood, Clark said. Zepeda stopped immediately and told police he had hit Mills, police said. Toxicology results are pending on Zepeda and Mills, state police said.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the Indiana State Police post at 812-689-5000.
