Pickleball tournament benefits charity

A Columbus pickleball tournament will benefit a nonprofit that provides social services to southern Indiana residents.

The second annual Thrive Alliance Columbus Pickleball tournament will take place Friday and Saturday at the Central Middle School gymnasium, 725 7th St.

The first event will be the Corporate Challenge, where companies and organizations from around Columbus will compete. Registration and warm-up starts at 9 a.m. Friday, with games beginning at 10 a.m.

The Recreational or Competitive Women’s, Men’s & Mixed Doubles tournament will take place Saturday. Registration and warm-up starts at 7:30 a.m., and games begin at 8:30 a.m.

Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. For people who do not know how to play, a beginner’s clinic is planned from 10-10:45 a.m. Friday. Equipment will be provided to participants.
