Duncan advances with third best second-round score

Tyler Duncan started the second round of the U.S. Open 17 places outside of the cut that advances to the final two rounds, but a solid day at Shinnecock Hills on Friday put him near the top of the leader board.

Duncan, who was tied for 87th after the first day, posted the third best score of the second round with a 3-under-par 67 to propel him into a 14th-place tie. The 2008 Columbus North graduate birdied three holes with one bogey to finish 4-over 144 after two days and advance to today’s third round.

Duncan remains eight strokes behind the leader Dustin Johnson, who matched Duncan’s second round score and is 4-under 136 for both days.

Duncan will tee off at 1:31 p.m. today to start the third round.
