Services and studies

Flintwood Wesleyan — Amplify (nontraditional) at 9 a.m. and The Well (traditional) at 11 a.m. will both be led on Sunday by Pastor Wes Jones in the main sanctuary of the church, 5300 25th St. He will be concluding his series on The Temptations, “I’m in Control.” The Prayer Team will meet at 8 a.m. and Sunday school classes will meet at 10 in their regular rooms. Regular evening activities will be dismissed.

A Christian Journey with Paul meets at 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday in The Friendship Center. New members are welcome. Prior classes are not necessary.

The Prayer Team will meet at 6 p.m. and adult Bible study will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, also in The Friendship Center.

Vacation Bible School is 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday at the church. This year’s theme is “Game On!” Volunteers are needed and may sign up by contacting Pastor Tracey Carter. Those who are interested in participating but have not yet registered may do so in person on Monday.

Flat Rock Christian — “Shipwrecked: Rescued by Jesus,” a Vacation Bible School for ages 4 through grade 6, will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 15-20 at the church, 2854 W. Pope St., Flat Rock. Children will make new friends and enjoy games, adventures and music. A light meal will be served each night during the program.

Westside Community — Pastor Dennis Aud will lead the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 124 Tipton Lakes Blvd. in Columbus. His message will be “Simple Pleasures,” with Scripture from Psalm 16:11. The children’s program through grade 6 will meet at the same time as the service.

The women’s seven-week Bible study, “My Heart, Christ’s Home” by Robert Boyd Munger, will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday and be led by Nita Evans.

Old Union United Church of Christ — The 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 12703 N. County Road 50W, Edinburgh, will be led by Pastor Kirby Rupp and feature the message, “At an Acceptable Time.” Scripture will include Job 38:1-11, 2 Corinthians 6:1-13 and Mark 4:35-41. Sunday school begins at 9 a.m., followed by fellowship at 9:40 a.m.

Wednesday Bible study is on hiatus for the summer.

Petersville United Methodist — The Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will deliver the message, “Service,” during the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday at the church, 2781 N. County Road 500E, Petersville. Her theme will focus on how to serve God and will include Scripture from Matthew 25:35-40. A time of fellowship will follow the service.

All regularly scheduled weekly programs will be on break until after Labor Day.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbus — The Rev. Chris Rothbauer will deliver the sermon, “Unexpected Blessings: How Our Faith can be a Blessing to People with Disabilities,” during the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday at the church, 7850 W. Goeller Blvd.

First Presbyterian — Service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the church, 512 Seventh St. Infant and toddler care will be available from 9:15 to 11 a.m. The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. every Friday. A second support group for working-age men meets at 6:15 a.m. Mondays. People in need of a meal are invited to the Hot Meals program offered at 5 p.m. Friday, with entrance through the glass doors on Franklin.

First United Methodist — The Rev. Lisa Cottingham will deliver the message, “The Sea is So Wide …,” at the 9 a.m. Traditional and 11 a.m. Celebration services Sunday at the church, 618 Eighth St. in Columbus. Scripture will include Mark 4:35-41.

Grace Lutheran — Worship will be at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the church, 3201 Central Ave. in Columbus. The message, based on Scripture from Mark 4:35-41, will deal with Jesus as both an example and object of faith. Sunday school for all ages will begin at 9:20 a.m.

First Baptist — The Rev. Jon Carlstrom, former pastor at First Baptist, will speak at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service at the church, located at 3300 Fairlawn Drive in Columbus. Child care is available on the lower level for infants.

Faith Lutheran — Representatives from Our Hospice of South Central Indiana will highlight the agency’s services in two programs at the church, 6000 State Road 46W, on July 11 and July 18.

One will be “All About Hospice” at 7 p.m. July 11. This information session will include a general overview, information about eligibility requirements, admission process, payment sources, benefits and services.

“Supporting the Caregiver” is the second program, to be held at 7 p.m. July 18. Care givers can learn how to support and care for themselves while caring for another.

Events

Flintwood Wesleyan — The next Flintwood Outdoor Market will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 7 at the church, 5300 25th St. in Columbus. Features local vendors and artisans and home-baked goods. Space may be rented by contacting Kim Rutan in the church office.

The church’s annual Building Hope 5K Run/Walk will take place Aug. 25, with more details to follow.

Westside Community — The church, located at 124 Tipton Lakes Blvd. in Columbus, will be hosting a blood drive through the Indiana Blood Center from 3 to 7 p.m. July 11. To schedule a time, contact the church office or visit donorpoint.org.

First United Methodist — Mission Mondays, featuring family friendly mission projects for all ages and abilities, will take place at noon Monday and July 23 in the Fellowship Hall of the church, 618 Eighth St. in Columbus.

Families of all ages are invited to join the Family Ministry Team for a bring-your-own picnic lunch and playground fun at noon each Wednesday in June and July at the church playground. If the weather does not cooperate, trikes and toys will be available for children to play with in the Fellowship Hall.

Grace Lutheran — Bring a dish to share and enjoy an international picnic from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church, 3201 Central Ave. in Columbus, featuring games and activities for every age group. Drinks and table service will be provided. Tables and chairs will be available, but guests are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs. All are invited.
