Staff Reports

A former Columbus Wastewater Treatment Plant supervisor has donated a scrapbook of his tenure working there to the Bartholomew County Public Library.

Jim Mayhugh Sr., Decatur, Illinois, worked for Columbus as the wastewater treatment plant supervisor from 1955 to 1967.

He donated a scrapbook of news clippings, awards and other historical items about the water and wastewater treatment plant to the library where it can be housed in the historical section, he said.

Mayhugh also donated a book he wrote, “Water and Wastewater Treatment Basic Training and Boot Camp,” to the library go along with the scrapbook.

The book provides information he gathered over a 40-year career in wastewater treatment to help new employees entering the field, he said.

Mayhugh graduated from Columbus High School in 1954.

During his career, in addition to leading the Columbus wastewater treatment plant staff, he also worked in water services for Carbondale, Illinois for 12 years and Decatur, Illinois until his retirement in 1995.

The materials have to stay within the library, but can be viewed their by library patrons, Mayhugh said.
