Rosamond “Rosy” Joan (Henry) McVey, 90, of Avon Park, Florida, formerly of Columbus, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2018, at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born February 16, 1928 in Shelbyville to Alvia and Flora (Richey) Henry.
She married Howard D. McVey on December 23, 1948 at First Baptist Church in Shelbyville; he survives.
She was a 1945 graduate of Shelbyville High School where she was the valedictorian of her class.
She had been a medical and legal stenographer for several years, having worked at Camp Atterbury.
She was an executive secretary for Hamilton-Cosco in Columbus, for 20 years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Columbus, and in Sebring, Florida.
She enjoyed playing the violin from her time in high school to performing with her family. She also enjoyed dancing.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Howard D. McVey of Avon Park, Florida; her children, Stephen Michael McVey (Cathy) of Oxford, Ohio, Julianne Bowling (Conrad) of Franklin, Ted William McVey (Debora) of Socorro, New Mexico and Tod Russell McVey (Roschelle) of Jacksonville, Florida; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and infant son, Patrick Michael McVey; a brother, Major Henry, and a sister Lois Henry.
The Rev. William Griffith will conduct a celebration of life service on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Columbus, 3300 Fairlawn Drive, Columbus, IN 47203, where friends may gather from 11 a.m. until the service time at the church. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Forest Hills Cemetery in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Columbus, 3300 Fairlawn Drive, Columbus IN 47203.
