Donald O. Ison, 81, of Columbus, passed from this life at 9:56 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2018 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Donald retired from Arvin Industries in 1999 as first line supervisor after 38 years of service.

He was of the Baptist faith and was a respected Sunday School Teacher for over 25 years.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Revs. Glenn Poynter and David Ison officiating.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and noon to time of service Friday.

Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Federation of The Blind.

Donald was born August 7, 1936 in Harlan County, Kentucky.

He was the son of Henry and Osa Frazier Ison.

He married Betty J. Ballard on July 17, 1963. She preceded him in death on March 7, 2018.

Survivors include his children, Farriletta (Timothy) Whited of Hartsville and Anthony (Dalisay) Ison of Columbus; grandchildren, Falicia Whited of Columbus and Savannah Ison of Columbus; a brother, David Ison of Freetown, and his sisters, Emmellou Day of Dupont, Annualvon Halcomb of Bloomington and Mary Katherine (William) Burnside of Freetown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a brother, Armond Ison.
