Flintwood Wesleyan — Amplify (nontraditional) at 9 a.m. and The Well (traditional) at 11 a.m. will both be led Sunday by Pastor Wes Jones in the main sanctuary of the church, 5300 E. 25th St. The Prayer Team will meet at 8 a.m. and Sunday school classes will meet in their regular rooms. Adult choir practice will begin at 5 p.m., followed at 6 p.m. by the evening service.

On Wednesday, The Prayer Team will meet at 6 p.m. in The Prayer Room and adult Bible study will meet at 6:30 p.m. in The Friendship Center.

St. Paul Lutheran — Pastor Doug Bauman’s sermon at the 8 and 10:45 a.m. services Sunday at the church, 6045 E. State St., will be “Take Heart.” Scripture will include Mark 6:45-56. The church’s cantor and organist, Daniel Mau, will lead the adult Bible class at 9:30 a.m., speaking on the history and development of the Lutheran hymnody.

The church’s early childhood ministry is accepting registrations for preschool and half-day kindergarten for the 2018-19 school year. Classes are available for children who are ages 3, 4 or 5 by Aug. 1. Classes for three-year-old children will meet from 8:15 to 11:15 a.m. each Tuesday and Thrusday starting Aug. 14. Classes for four-year-old children will meet from 8:15 to 11:15 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday or from 12:10 to 3:10 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday starting Aug. 13. Half-day kindergarten classes will meet from 8:15 to 11:45 a.m. Monday through Friday beginning on Aug. 7. Extended care will be available to complement the class sessions. The teaching staff hold college degrees in education, and the church is accredited through the National Lutheran School Accreditation.

Westside Community — Pastor Dennis Aud will lead the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 124 Tipton Lakes Blvd. His message will be “Lessons from Jonah.” Scripture will include Jonah 1:1-3. The children’s program through grade 6 will meet at the same time as the service.

Because the entrance to Tipton Lakes Boulevard from State Road 46 is closed due to road construction, church goers are instead encouraged to use Goeller Boulevard from the east or County Road 525W from the west.

Old Union United Church of Christ — The 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 12703 N. County Road 50W, Edinburgh, will be led by Pastor Kirby Rupp and feature the message, “Let Them Eat.” Scripture will include 2 Kings 4:42-44; Ephesians 3:14-21; and John 6:1-21. Sunday school will begin at 9 a.m., followed by fellowship at 9:40 a.m.

Wednesday Bible study is on hiatus for the summer.

First Presbyterian — Recalling the feeding of the five thousand, the sermon “What’s for Dinner?” will reflect on the story as it appears in John 6:1-21. Worship service will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the church, 512 Seventh St. Infant and toddler care will be available from 9:15 to 11 a.m.

The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. every Friday. Another support group for working-age men meets at 6:15 a.m. Mondays.

People in need of a meal are invited to the Hot Meals program offered at 5 p.m. Friday, with entrance through the glass doors on Franklin Street.

The church is LGBTQ-friendly and open and affirming to all.

First United Methodist — At the 9 a.m. Traditional and 11 a.m. Celebration services Sunday at the church, 618 Eighth St., the Rev. Lisa Cottingham will deliver the message, “A View from the Church Kitchen.” Scripture will include John 6:1-14.

A unified worship service will take place at 10 a.m. in the church’s sanctuary, followed by a picnic at 11:30 a.m. at Donner Park, 739 22nd St.

Petersville United Methodist — The Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry’s theme for the 9 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 2781 N. County Road 800E, Petersville, will be “We Are to be Compassionate with Love Poured into God’s Word.” Liturgist Deb Loper will read Scripture from Ephesians 4:25-5:2, and Maxine Harden will give the children’s message. Allyson Loper and Lexi Blaich will sing “The River” by Jordan Feliz. A time of fellowship will follow the service.

The Prayer group, led by Barb Hedrick, will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.

The United Methodist Men’s group will meet at 7:15 a.m. Aug. 5.

First Baptist — The congregation will welcome Dr. William Griffith to speak at the 9:30 a.m. service at the church, 3300 Fairlawn Drive. Child care will be available on the lower level for infants. First United Methodist — “Songs for a Summer Evening,” a free Saturday Night Showcase open to the public and featuring local musicians and personalities, will take place at 7 tonight at the church, 618 Eighth St. Doors will open a half hour prior to the start of the event. Flintwood Wesleyan — Chicago Pizza Take-Over Night event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at 3780 W. Jonathan Moore Pike. Diners who mention the church will see a portion of their purchase go to the Building Hope fund.

The 11th annual Harold Carr Memorial Golf Outing will be Aug. 11 at Clifty Creek Golf Course, 12000 E. County Road 225N, Hope. Lunch will be served at noon, with tee time at 1 p.m. The cost is $45 per person and includes lunch, 18 holes of golf with cart, a sleeve of golf balls, prizes and 4 mulligans. GLOW, God Lights Our World, will resume Aug. 15.

The church’s annual Building Hope 5K Walk/Run Event is scheduled for Aug. 25. Pre-race activities will begin at 7:30 a.m. Registration and sign-in will start at 8 a.m., with the race to follow at 9 a.m. Cost: $25 for adults; $15 for children ages 12 and younger.
