COLUMBUS

Jo Stattenfield was a much-loved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, friend, educator and mentor.

She is remembered by her sons as a caring, adventurous mom who spent countless hours at the hockey rinks, soccer fields and schools of Indiana and beyond, patiently raising young men.

Some will remember her as a pioneering woman professional who broke glass ceilings in the corporate world and then later ran her own company, providing opportunities for many others in our community.

Others will remember her as an accomplished musician who loved performing for both the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and the Columbus Philharmonic Orchestra, dedicating many playing and volunteer hours on those groups’ behalves.

Still others may remember her as a caring mentor, eager teacher, fantastic chef, gracious host, fun bridge partner, vacation planner, hockey sponsor, Duke University alumnus and fan, welcoming presence, or maybe just someone to talk to who took the time to know and appreciate those around her.

All who knew her will remember and appreciate her efforts to enrich the lives of others. She will be missed.

Jo is survived by her two sons, Ryan (Lori) Stattenfield and Boyce (Deb) Stattenfield; as well as her five grandchildren, Kylie, Andrea, Cameron, Abigail and Owen Stattenfield.

There will be a visitation at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home in Columbus from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, August 10, followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic Orchestra or the Columbus Symphony Orchestras.
