I would like to address all the people who think Donald Trump is the worst president we’ve ever had. I would like to challenge that idea with facts.
In the 1970s President Nixon’s administration orchestrated the break-in of Democratic headquarters, and Nixon eventually resigned. He did many other terrible things, the worst of which was not ending the Vietnam War sooner. We weren’t winning and thousands of American soldiers died over there because of it. Nixon also attempted to have John Lennon of the Beatles deported because he saw him as a threat to his government. Note, the Watergate investigation was called a “witch hunt” by Nixon.
Next there’s Ronald Reagan. This president’s administration sold 1,500 missiles and various other weapons to Iran, during an arms embargo, under the table, without informing the American people or Congress. Then his administration used the $30 million it received to fund a little private war in Nicaragua. Reagan initially denied that he had negotiated with Iran or the terrorists. He took back the statement a week later. Lt. Col. Oliver North came forward to take the heat off the president. North said he diverted the funds to the Contras in Nicaragua, who used the money to buy weapons. Oliver North was charged with with 12 counts relating to conspiracy and making false statements. (Note: Oliver North is now the president of the National Rifle Association.)
On July 3, 1988, the USS Vincennes shot down an Iranian civilian aircraft. The plane carried 290 passengers including 66 children. These were just citizens of Iran going on vacation with their kids or business people mostly. At the time, then-Vice President George H.W. Bush (later the 41st U.S. president) said: “I will never apologize for the United States — I don’t care what the facts are… I’m not an apologize-for-America kind of guy.” To this day the cover-up continues. These people were completely innocent.
Maybe worst of all was President George W. Bush, the 43rd president. On either no evidence at all or completely fabricated evidence, the United States invaded a sovereign nation it had no business being in. More than 100,000 innocent people lost their lives in that war. So no, I can’t say Trump is as bad as 43 or 41, or Reagan or Nixon, not yet, anyway. But now Trump plans to cancel the security clearances of many of the people who he considers his enemies.
He has actually came out and said that he plans to do it to disrupt any news coverage of Omarosa Manigault’s new book. What if Trump decides we need to invade some country, just to divert our attention from some other terrible thing he is involved in? This is getting to the point that action must be taken and it must be taken by Republican leaders. They need to stand up and tell the president they aren’t going to take this anymore. This can only get worse if we don’t do something soon. I’m sure his base will understand.
