Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies found items stolen in a burglary after a traffic stop at 10th and Cottage Avenue in Columbus.
Sheriff’s Sgt. T.A. Smith was at QC Communications on Jonesville Road on Wednesday after the company had reported a burglary. Several power tools valued at about $3,000 had been taken, deputies said.
While Smith was entering serial and model numbers of the equipment into the report, Columbus Police Officer Travis Harbaugh stopped a vehicle in Columbus driven by James D. Carmer, 21, of 150 Cambridge Square.
During the stop, Harbaugh located a reciprocating saw reportedly stolen from the communications company, deputies said.
Carmer was arrested on preliminary charges of theft, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and driving while suspended with a prior conviction, deputies said.
He was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $16,000 bond, jail officials said.
