Crusaders fall in state final
LAFAYETTE — Columbus Christian made it to the ICSAA state championship game for the first time in school history before falling to Victory Christian from Valparaiso 25-20, 24-26, 25-15, 25-21 on Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders had advanced to the final with a 25-20, 25-8, 25-20 win against Horizon Christian on Saturday morning.
Mayah Schundelmier finished with 30 kills, three solo and four assist blocks, 13 digs and six aces for the day. Madison Henderson recorded 17 kills, two assist blocks and 19 digs and eight aces; and Hannah Stair notched three kills, 56 assists, two assist blocks, six digs and six aces.
Michaela Schundelmier tallied seven kills, one assist block, 19 digs and nine aces. Ellie Ridder added eight kills, one solo and one assist block and 20 digs; and Kayla Jones had four kills, two assist blocks, 12 digs and five aces.
Because of an injury to middle hitter Lauren Hunnicutt, Columbus Christian (25-3-1) played with only six players. Jones moved from libero to the right side, Ridder moved from right side to the outside and Henderson moved from outside to the middle.
"The Victory coach came up to me after the game and actually told me we were the best team they played all year," Columbus Christian coach Sarah Stair said. "They played so hard, they played really well as a team and I couldn’t be prouder of them."
Trinity takes sectional
CAMPBELLSBURG — Trinity Lutheran swept West Washington 25-19, 25-11, 25-10 Saturday night to capture the West Washington Sectional title.
Bailey Reynolds led the Cougars (27-9) with 31 assists and three aces. Hannah Sabotin pounded 14 kills and two blocks, and Abby Schult had 10 kills and four blocks. Kamzi Gross notched 13 digs, and Savannah Harweger added 10 digs.
The Cougars rolled to a 25-6, 25-7, 25-11 win against Madison Shawe in the semifinals.
Trinity will Tecumseh at noon Saturday in the Loogootee Regional. Rock Creek Academy and Class A No. 2 Barr-Reeve will play in the final, and the title match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Eagles make sectional final
BRAZIL — Brown County swept West Vigo to advance to the finals of the Northview Sectional before falling in straight sets to the host and Class 3A No. 5 Knights in the final.
The Eagles (17-8) rolled to a 25-7, 25-15, 25-20 semifinal win.
Pioneers sweep Panthers
SEYMOUR — Jennings County saw its season come to an end with a 25-8, 25-6, 25-7 loss to 4A No. 2 Providence in the semifinals of the Seymour Sectional.
The Panthers finished 12-16.
Hawks lose in five
The Columbus Hawks won the first two sets Friday, but Madison Christian Academy rallied for a 18-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-11 on the Hawks’ senior night.
Ava Farnsley led the Hawks (3-10) with nine digs and five aces. Grace Lorimor pounded 14 kills, and Sarah Lorimor recorded 13 assists.
Grace Lorimor also added five assists, eight digs and four aces. Lucy Herridge tallied three kills, Sarah Lorimor served four aces and Elisabeth White had three aces.

South Decatur wins
GREENSBURG — South Decatur put together its most complete game of the season Friday in a 32-14 win against Cambridge City Lincoln.
Kenny Meadows ran for 115 yards and three touchdowns, and Wyatt Gatewood threw two touchdown passes to Kelby Shook. Gatewood also had 103 yards rushing on seven carries for the Cougars (3-6).
Trent Nobbe led the defense with five tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
"The team that we thought we had showed up," South Decatur coach Garry Sauley said. "Our kids played four quarters of football that we felt we had all year long."
Vikings top Eagles
WEST TERRE HAUTE — Brown County finished 10th in the Western Indiana Conference after falling at West Vigo 60-20 in Friday’s ninth-place game.
Noah Carter threw three touchdown passes for the Eagles (2-7). He hit Devon Smith-Harden for 50 yards and Nick Huls for 3 and 25 yards.
