Letter: Council candidate Omar offers knowledge, experience

Hanna Omar is running for the office of Bartholomew County Council District 1. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will serve this county well.

Hanna is a graduate of Fordham University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science with a minor in economics, and also received a master’s degree in political science with a concentration in international politics and foreign policy. In 2016, she received an MBA from Indiana University.

While living in New York, Hanna was a project manager for several departments of UNICEF. She founded a retail clothing business, worked on a mayoral campaign and was active in the Bronx community, promoting educational opportunities for the marginalized, and working on human rights issues.

Since moving to Columbus seven years ago, Hanna has become an integral part of the community. She is involved with volunteer programs through her employer, local government and on her own. She is a member of the Interfaith Program Team, a former board member of CAMEO (Columbus Area Multi-Ethnic Organization), was a volunteer coordinator at DSI and has been a Board of Zoning member since 2012 (appointed by the mayor), and was on the planning committee for Foundation for Youth’s Great Girls, Wonderful Women Luncheon.

As a county council member, Hanna will be committed to promoting a long-term plan in budgeting and allocation of county funds, demanding an efficient and effective government, and transparency and accountability of the County Council. As a new mother, Hanna wants to make our community safer and better for everyone.

If you desire knowledge, experience and fairness for all, vote Hanna Omar for county council.
