We are residents of Columbus. I have lived here all of my life and my husband has lived here since our marriage. We care deeply about our community and its leadership. Therefore, we are supporting Ryan Lauer for state representative.
Ryan is pro-life. We are, too. We respect the value of human life. My husband is alive today despite being born to a single mother. She chose to raise him herself instead of placing him up for adoption or aborting him. Today he is a father, husband, brother and son, something he could not be if he were not here. Ryan supports legislation that provides better options and lower costs for adoption and crisis pregnancy counseling.
Ryan supports school choice. We do, too. He understands the diverse needs of District 59 families with respect to education. We all want and expect academic and social excellence from our children, but not all children excel in the traditionally structured environment of public schools. School choice allows families to decide for themselves what form of schooling is best for their child. Choice fosters innovation through competition for students. Choice allows lower-income families to educate their children for a better future. Better educated and more prosperous children make better clients, better customers, better neighbors and better citizens. Ryan will sponsor legislation to expand school choice for all Hoosier families.
Ryan supports lower taxes. We do, too. My husband moved from a state where property taxes were a third of his monthly mortgage payment and, as a result, made better housing unaffordable. Fortunately, here property tax increases are capped. However, we’ve seen the insatiable appetite of state government’s desire to tax and spend on display just last year with the raise in the gas tax and increase auto registration fees. Ryan will stand against this impulse and work to ensure that tax money collected is actually spent on the projects for which it is collected.
Ryan is strong defender of the Second Amendment. We are, too. He believes that it is not a right granted by government, but rather a right that government must protect. The National Rifle Association of America endorses and rates him an “A.” He will work in the legislature to defend and expand this fundamental right while also ensuring that laws are crafted for prosecutors to use to penalize criminals that use guns in their crimes.
For these reasons and more, we are voting for Ryan Lauer.
