Crusaders take third
DUGGER — Columbus Christian bounced back from a 54-42 semifinal loss to Dugger Union to beat Medora 64-32 in the third-place game of Saturday’s inaugural Southern Roads Conference Tournament.
Grace Lorimor, who missed the semifinal while taking the ACT, made it for the consolation game and led the Crusaders (1-1) with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Kayla Jones recorded 12 points, eight rebounds and eight steals; while Madison Henderson scored 11 points and Kaitlyn Conrad added eight points and nine rebounds. Ellie Ridder had eight rebounds, four assists and six steals and Sarah Lorimor collected six steals.
In the season opener, Columbus Christian outscored Dugger Union 26-22 in the second half, but couldn’t overcome a 32-16 halftime deficit. Henderson led the Crusaders with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Jones and Ann Marie Gandy each had four steals.
Eagles edge Cardinals
BLOOMFIELD — Brown County opened its season Saturday by pulling out a 51-50 win at Bloomfield.
Gracie Matlock lead the Eagles with 14 points. Abigail Hollander added 10, and Allison Stogsdill had nine.
Spartans top Cougars
GREENSBURG — Southwestern (Shelby) jumped out to a 30-12 halftime lead and went on to post a 57-23 Mid-Hoosier Conference win Saturday at South Decatur.
Megan Manlief led the Cougars (0-2, 0-1) with seven points and four rebounds. Lana Bell had four rebounds and four steals.
Panthers rout Lions
SELLERSBURG — Jennings County opened its season Friday with a 74-38 win at Rock Creek Academy.
Kylee Matern led the Panthers with 18 points. Addyson Kent, Alana Daeger and Callie Wilder all added 12.
Lancers blast Pumas
INDIANAPOLIS — Edinburgh jumped out leads of 21-0 after one quarter and a 51-4 at halftime Friday on its way to an 83-17 season-opening win at Indianapolis Metropolitan.
Sidney Beier led the Lancers with 23 points. Destiney Ramey and Haven Link each added 15.
