Danny Ray Stephens, 62, of Columbus, passed from this life at 8:18 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Danny was born September 8, 1956, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Hazel Truman and Mildred Maxine Smith Stephens. On December 1, 1973, Danny married Debra J. Banks; she survives.
Danny worked for Milestone Contractors for 25 years and retired as an operating engineer.
Danny enjoyed membership at Bethel Baptist Church, Columbus Moose Lodge No. 398, Fraternal Order of the Eagles No. 741 and American Legion Post No. 24.
A sports enthusiast, Danny enjoyed baseball, basketball, football and playing golf.
Danny is survived by his wife of 45 years, Debra; his mother, Maxine Hammond of Scipio; his children, Lori Mitchell and her husband, Matthew of Columbus, Davia Stephens of Columbus and Eric Stephens and his wife, Amber, of Columbus; grandchildren, Carter, Ali, Kierra, Kayla, Ethan and Mason; great-grandson, Kaison; brothers, Marty Stephens and his wife, Karen, of Scipio and Ron Stephens and his wife, Sheila, of Columbus; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Danny was preceded in death by his father, Hazel Truman Stephens; his step-father, Richard Hammond; and brothers, Max, Jerry and Richard Stephens.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Adam Carrigan officiating.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday.
In keeping with Danny’s wishes, cremation will take place following the funeral service. Private inurnment will be at Bethel Baptist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
