I’M OFFICIALLY SICK OF TAKING COMEDY SO SERIOUSLY

The New Year is still two weeks away and I’m filled with resolutions. For other people! If I had my wish, I’d love for the TV gods to serve up fewer shows about vampires. Fewer series with “Marvel” in the title and a complete moratorium on dramas and comedies that ask us to treat comedians in deadly earnest.

Seriously, we live in an age when viewers really buy into the premise of the cloying “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” about a rich Upper West Side Manhattan divorcee who lives a pampered life and yet gets to be a bohemian downtown comic at the same time. It’s hard to accept angsty stand-up from somebody in such fabulous outfits.
