COLUMBUS, Ind. — A 62-year-old Columbus woman died early Wednesday night in a traffic accident at 25th Street and Taylor Road on the northeast side of the city.
Bao Yue Qiu was killed in the 7:20 p.m. accident, deputy coroner Jay Frederick said. She died of blunt force trauma, Frederick said.
Columbus police officers responded to the scene of the crash after receiving several 911 phone calls. The investigating officers determined that the driver of a Jeep Patriot sport utility vehicle was traveling east on 25th Street, near Taylor Road, when the driver reportedly struck the woman, who was walking south across 25th Street, said Lt. Matt Harris, public information officer for Columbus Police Department.
The injured pedestrian was transported by ambulance to Columbus Regional Hospital where she later died from her injuries, Harris said.
The woman was declared dead by coroner Clayton Nolting.
Columbus Police Department is investigating the incident.
