Cummins Inc. offered another 350 workers voluntary early retirement packages as the company continued to cut costs in response to weak demand for its engines in a struggling worldwide economy.

In the midst of a cold, snowy and icy winter, local merchants, big box stores and small businesses alike, reported being nearly or completely out of seasonal items such as snow shovels, snow blowers, winter wear, etc., and area grocers had a hard time keeping staples on their shelves as people stocked up on milk, bread and soup.

Cummins Engine Co. and Arvin Industries planned special events during the coming months to observe their 50th anniversaries.
