Bartholomew, Jackson and Jennings counties are among 12 counties under a flood warning, after thunderstorms began producing heavy rain this morning, according to Bartholomew County Emergency Management. Columbus, Seymour, North Vernon, Brownstown, Vernon and Edinburgh are among the cities included in the flood warning.
The National Weather Service said 1.5 inches of rain has fallen already on saturated ground and more heavy rain is forecast through mid-afternoon.
First responders are reminding residents to not drive into any flooded roads or try to drive around high water signs.
Law enforcement will be monitoring roads that are closed due to flooding. If an individual is caught disregarding the road closed signs, they may issue a citation for at least $140.50 and points taken off your license, according to Bartholomew County Emergency Management.
