Funding requests for two programs to increase access to opioid addiction treatment received final approval from the city Tuesday.
The Bartholomew County Adult Drug Recovery Court will receive $92,603 from the city and Bartholomew County to fund a part-time family law magistrate, special drug court prosecutor, public defender and other operating costs. Federal funding of $500,000 has already been obtained for the adult drug court from 2019-2022.
The Volunteers of America Fresh Start Recovery Center will also receive one-time funding of $200,000 to complete renovations at former post office building at 703 Washington St. The building will house the 23-bed residential facility where expectant women and mothers can receive addiction treatment.
"To see some of these projects come to fruition is really exciting," councilman David Bush said. "It’s great for our community."
The city and council will pay an equal share of 50 percent of both the $92,603 and the $200,000 local cost for the drug court and treatment facility.
Both projects could be in operation by the beginning of April.
