Duncan tied for 30th after opening-round 69
Tyler Duncan fired an opening-round 1-under-par 69 Thursday and is tied for 30th place in The Honda Classic.
Duncan, a 2008 Columbus North graduate, rallied after bogeying four of the first five holes and shooting 3-over 38 on the front nine at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He came back with a 4-under 31 on the back nine.
Jhonattan leads the tournament at 6-under 64.
Crusaders win again, advance to final four
DAYTON, Tennessee — Columbus Christian advanced to the final four in the National Association of Christian Athletes Division 6 tournament with a 67-48 win against Lancaster Christian Academy from Smyrna, Tennessee, Thursday afternoon.
The Crusaders (14-17) jumped out to a 42-17 halftime lead and never looked back. Conner Emily scored 21 points, while C.J. Reed added 16, Gabe Ridder 12 and Josh Jones 11.
Columbus Christian will play Family Christian Academy from Orlando, Florida, in the semifinals at 11:30 a.m. today. The loser plays for third place at 3:45 p.m. today, and the winner will play for the Division 6 title at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Three North athletes win events in indoor opener
BLOOMINGTON — Three Columbus North athletes won their respective field events Wednesday night in the Bloomington Invitational indoor track and field meet at Indiana University.
Freshman Tucker Smith won the boys shot put with a throw of 56-feet, 1/2-inch. Adrienne Salemme took the girls pole vault at 10-0, and Emily Herndon captured the girls shot at 36-6 1/2.
Also for the North boys, Austin Pulkowski finished second in the 1,600 meters in 4 minutes, 50.00 seconds, and Hunter Spalding, Ben Malone, Qwenton Bolden and Daveed Jolley took third in the 4×200 relay (1:33.67). Malone was fourth in the 60 hurdles (8.79); Noah Abfall, Malone, Noah Kestler and Aaron Krider finished fourth in the 4×400 relay (3:46.09) and Preston Terrell took fifth in the long jump (20-2 3/4).
For the girls, Sydney Geckler finished second in the 1,600 (5:53.31), and Sydney Wheeler tied for second in the pole vault (8-6). Shaelynn Scruggs took fourth in the shot (31-7 1/4); Mackenzie Barnett, Emma Lawson, Kennedy Kerber and Ella Anderson were fourth in both the 4×800 relay (10:36.94) and distance medley relay (14:13.19) and Karla Perez Gonzalez finished fifth in the 1,600 (6:20.92).
